So then, on top of the REST of my day, I get a call from the pharmacy saying my Lo-Ovral birth control pills are being recalled for being inserted into the pack in the wrong sequence.
This applies to Lo-Ovral and Lo-Ovral generics. I was fine, but my roommate had three faulty packs, so we promptly ran out to trade them in and purchase pregnancy tests. (Which I plan on sending to the maker for reimbursement for.)
The information I have from the pharmacist is that the pills were installed incorrectly into the packs - meaning the pink sugar pills were in the wrong place. So really, as long as you were still taking white pills you were probably okay, but better to trade them in safely than sorry, I say. Hopefully no one accidentally messed up their colors in favor of taking the “days” properly. Please pass this on to anyone you know who might take Lo-Ovral, it’s the birth control of choice for most free clinics!
It’s probably also important to mention that this only affects a small number of Lo-Ovral pills, and the brand as a whole is still very safe and reliable to take. Please do not stop taking your birth control just because of this - contact your pharmacist and use secondary forms of birth control (condoms!) in the meantime!
